We are pleased to invite you to an in-person presentation by New York Times bestselling German author Bernhard Schlink in one of his few stops of his U.S. book signing tours
Bernhard Schlink |
A professor emeritus of law at Humboldt University, Berlin, and Cardozo Law School, New York, he is the author of many internationally bestselling novels. Germany’s most successful living writer, Bernhard Schlink first became a star in the U.S. literary constellation when his book The Reader (1997) was selected as an Oprah pick and made into an Oscar-winning film featuring Ralph Fiennes and Kate Winslet. Since then, he has continued to write powerful and disquieting books that raise moral questions about Germany immediately following WWII.
His latest novel, Olga, a story of love, passion, and history, was a #1 international bestseller and follows Olga from late-19th century to modern-day Germany. A master storyteller, Schlink seamlessly shifts between different viewpoints and forms and tells the story of a woman who, like many of her generation, is forced to live below her capacities, next to men who live above theirs. Yet Olga manages to cope with the hardships of her era with strength, dignity, and courage.
Bernhard will discuss his books and will answer questions, followed by a book signing. Copies of Olga, The Reader, and The Woman on the Stairs will be available for sale at the event, thanks to Susan McBeth and Adventures by the Book, which made Bernhard’s appearance at Coffee with Kafka possible.
Refreshments will be served. Reservations are required. Seating is limited and is sure to fill.
